  • What is Tae Kwon Do ?
    Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art that dates back many years and was introducted in to the UK in 1967, we practice the Chang Hon style or "Blue Cottage" (sometimes know as ITF).We practice all areas including Patterns, Linework, Padwork, Self defence, Step Sparring, Free Sparring and Breaking. Some Tae Kwon Do schools also teach Olympic style fighting. Taekwon-do is also a practical self defense system which trains the student for modern day self defense encounters.
  • What is the differnce between Taekwon Do & Freestyle Taekwon-do?
    Very simply Freestyle Taekwon-do, is more sport based and very simliar to kick boxing, however still includes a belt system and gradings. The areas we train in are , linework, fitness, padwork, self defence and breaking.
  • Do I have to be in good shape before I start?
    No, you will get into shape as you train. We have a series of exercises that you will learn as you progress through the ranking system which will enable you to perform to the best of your ability.
  • I am 31 years old, am I too old to start martial arts?"
    No, you are not too old to begin martial arts training. Taekwon-do regularly has students start from adolecense through their 50's and older, we currently have a 74 year old training with us. Taekwon-do is a practical and effective martial art that does not incorporate gymnastics.
  • I am very busy with my work schedule, how much time do I need to devote to Taekwon-do classes?"
    The two 1 hour classes are week are recommended, as is practicing at home. We operate a simple "credit system" for the belt promtions which we have found is fair to all students. As you progress through the ranks if you want more 1:1 attention we offer 30 minute private lessons which can further help hone your skills.
  • Do I have to register my hands when I become a black belt?
    No, that is an urban myth. Martial Artists are not required to register their hands, although all our black belts are registered on the black belt register. www.cmaauk.com/nbbr/
  • How long does it take to get a black belt?
    In Tradional Taekwon-do , it takes approximately 4 years to reach student black belt. Freestyle Taekwon-do takes a little less time approximately 2 years.
  • What sort of things should I consider when choosing a school?
